Get out your jackets and put on your gloves because winter has come early to Georgia.

Snowboarders, skiers and winter enthusiasts across Georgia are celebrating the opening of Goderdzi today - the newest of Georgia’s four winter resorts on the slopes of the mountainous Adjara region. This is the first time the mountain has opened as a ski resort.

This year also saw the earliest winter season start in the last 20 years at Georgia’s winter resorts.

Picking the right place for a winter break in Georgia can be puzzling as there are four ski destinations to choose from – Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia (Svaneti) and Goderdzi (Adjara). Photo by the Mountain Resorts Development Company of Georgia.

Goderdzi ski resort is situated on a north-facing plateau, only two-hour drive from the most popular seaside resort town of Batumi in western Georgia. It is a four-season mountain resort by its location and infrastructure.

At an elevation of 2,000 metres, the Goderdzi mountains are snow-covered by an average 6-7m of snow between November and April.

Eight kilometres of ski runs offered different levels of pistes (Intermediate, Advanced and Expert) as well as the opportunity of winter and summer hiking, ski tours, mountain biking, paragliding and freeriding.

The opening of Goderdzi will be followed by the opening of Bakuriani and Gudauri ski fields in Georgia’s east next week.
