Huge crowds in Ukraine’s capital Kiev celebrate Tbilisoba

More than 35,000 visitors took part in the Tbilisoba celebration in Ukraine’s capital Kiev today.
Cultural events in the centre of Kiev marked the annual celebration of Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi.
The Andreevsky Descent hosted the Ukraine event, which was opened by Kiev City Municipality Culture Department head Diana Popova and Georgia’s Ambassador to Ukraine Mikheil Ukleba.
The occasion involved various contests, a photo exhibition of Old Tbilisi, an interactive installation and an evening of literature.
Artists who featured in the celebration included the Theatre Quartet band, Ukraine’s Meritorious Musical Ensemble Gorlitsa-Art, Ukrainian band Vroda and performers Sergiy Gladyr and Aniko Dolidze.
The Tbilisoba celebration was also participated by about 20 Georgian restaurants and wine producers and mineral water companies.
The annual Tbilisoba festival in Georgia will take place in capital Tbilisi through October 17-18.
On October 17 and 18, the streets of Old Tbilisi will come alive in the 35th annual Tbilisoba Festival, which was named in honour of Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi.
Three citizen-submitted projects have been shortlisted to feature in the Tbilisoba celebration by Tbilisi City Hall commission, with online voting now set to reveal the winner of the 14,000 GEL first prize and the opportunity to have their idea featured in the annual city festival.
Latvia has followed Ukraine’s lead by hosting its own Tbilisoba celebration in its capital city Riga.
Immense fun, artistic performances, flavourful wine, delicious food, loud music and folk dances – these are only part of the plethora of attractions Tbilisi is offering today.
