The women’s national football team of Georgia is about to make history by debuting in the prestigious UEFA European Championship.

The women’s team will take to the pitch today and play their first ever UEFA European Championship game against Italy in La Spezia.

The match will open the qualifying round for the 2017 UEFA European Championship tournament for Georgia, while a number of games were already played in other qualifying groups yesterday, September 17.

Tonight’s match between Georgia and Italy will kick-off at 8:30pm Georgian time.

The female footballers have spent many months training for the competition, culminating in an intensive training week where 17 players were under the watchful eye of coach Tamaz Kostava.

The UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 final stage will take place in the Netherlands. Eight group winners and six best runner-up teams will travel to the competition following the qualifying stage, while two more second-placed teams will face each other in a playoff match.

The 15 teams will be joined by hosts the Netherlands for the final tournament, played through July and August 2017.
