Georgian Parliament Speaker set to visit US

Georgia’s Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili is set to pay a working visit to the United States (US).

Usupashvili will hold high-level meetings before speaking at the fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York on September 1.

The three-day conference will begin on August 31 and will be attended by about 140 Speakers of Parliament from across the world.

The conference will focus on peace, democracy and developments seen through the parliamentary lens.

Within the framework of the visit Usupashvili was also scheduled to meet President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Anne Brasseur and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE Ilkka Kanerva.

The conference is part of a series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit in late September, during which the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be launched.

The Georgian Parliament Speaker will return home on September 3.
