Speeding up Georgia’s integration into NATO and strengthening the country’s defence capabilities are two goals the Georgian Parliament Speaker will try to get closer to at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels tomorrow.

Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili will pay a two-day visit to Brussels, where he will meet NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow on July 22.

Moreover, in the framework of the NATO-Georgia Commission on the same day, Usupashvili will have about two hours to address diplomats from all NATO member states and highlight the topics his country is most interested in.

"We will talk about all those issues that represent the area of our interest in respect of NATO,” he said.

"And what we are interested in is speeding up of our integration into NATO and strengthening of our very specific defence capabilities from the political point of view and from other point of views.”

Last time Usupashvili addressed NATO high officials he said today Georgia was as ready to be a NATO member, as were incumbent members when they were invited to join the Alliance.

"It is high time for Georgia to take one more step towards NATO integration, they will be crucial steps and the Warsaw Summit [in 2016] is a due venue for it,” he said.
