On the final day of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Tbilisi, a Georgian athlete has won a bronze medal in artistic gymnastics.
This success means the country has won eight medals in the youth competition.
In boys' vault, Georgia’s Dmitrii Govorov placed third with 14.150 points, earning him the bronze medal.
"This is my first victory in such a big championship,” Govorov said after the competition.
"The public’s support helped me a lot. Had I performed the first jump a little better I would have competed for first prize. The second run was also not so good. Yet I regained strength and had a good final jump.”
Altogether, eight gymnasts took part in the vault apparatus. Sharamkop Iakho of Belarus outdid his opponents and took home the gold medal while the silver medal went to Great Britain’s Lorenzo Regini-Moran with 14.400 points.
As of this afternoon, Georgia had eight medals. Of this three were gold and five were bronze. All of the previous medals were won by judokas.
For the past six days Georgia’s capital city Tbilisi has hosted the 13th EYOF, the largest sporting event ever held in the country.
A closing ceremony will take place at 9pm today, which will be attended by the country’s Prime Minister and a number of leading European sport officials.
Meanwhile a press conference was held earlier today that summed up the festival. Georgian organisers of the event received positive assessments from international experts.
Heads of international delegations also praised the country for a "well-organised”, "high-quality” and "fantastic” festival.
"In the beginning we made a promise that this would be one of the best festivals and at the end we received positive assessments from everyone,” head of the Tbilisi 2015 Organising Committee Aleksi Akhvlediani said.
