Georgia’s PM, senior Chinese official discuss bilateral relations

Georgia attaches much importance to deepening relations with China.
These were the words spoken by Georgia’s Prime Minister during a meeting with a senior Chinese official today.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili hosted Huang Wei, vice chairman of the People’s Government of Xinjiang Autonomous region - the largest Chinese administrative division – in Tbilisi today.
This meeting was of high importance as the Xinjiang Autonomous region provided Georgia with the largest amount of investments of all Chinese regions.
The main topics discussed by the Georgian and Chinese sides included the importance of the New Silk Road project and the Chinese official expressed his readiness to participate in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum scheduled to be held in Tbilisi in October.
The sides also stressed the importance of deepening trade and economic relations between the two countries.
Wei said Georgia was a country of "great potential” as it had high geo-political importance.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili revealed latest details of the New Silk Road Project at a ceremony where $10 million worth of Chinese irrigation equipment was granted to the Georgian Government.
Georgia and China are deepening trade and economic ties. Georgia's Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri is on an official visit to China to showcase Georgia's investment potential in a bid to attract more Chinese investments.
Georgia is the first country in the South Caucasus to officially meet China’s Silk Road Fund representatives to discuss the $40 billion USD project that’s designed to improve trade, drive investment in infrastructure and boost connectivity across Asia.
Georgia's Prime Minister took to the stage at a discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos and spoke about the interdependence of European countries and highlighted the Georgian Government's vision of new trade and energy routes to better connect European nations.
