The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
Members of the Cyprus Parliament voted in favour of the ratification of the EU-Georgia deal yesterday.
The document was approved following a majority vote, where only members of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) refrained from voting.
The important deal was signed by Georgia and the EU on June 27, 2014 in Brussels. European Parliament approved the EU-Georgia deal on December 18, 2014.
The Republic of Cyprus is the 20th EU member state to ratify the EU-Georgia deal.
Other countries that have already ratified the important deal are: Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Finland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia, Malta, Latvia, Lithuania and Bulgaria.
EU Association deals need to be ratified by all 28 EU member countries before the agreement can be fully implemented. Therefore nine EU member countries still need to ratify the deal.
