Georgia’s top two leaders have voiced their concern over the tense situation in Ukraine causing the death of at least two dozen people, including a Georgian citizen.
Georgia’s President and Prime Minister said the violence was unacceptable and urged the government to listen to its people.
President Giorgi Margvelashvili called on his Ukrainian counterpart, Viktor Yanukovych, to do his best to stop the violence and begin peaceful dialogue with the protesters.
"I want to convey my condolences to the families of the people who have been killed, which includes Georgian citizen Zurab Khurtsia. I find the situation in Ukraine alarming,” Margvelashvili said.
The President stressed the highest value for any Government should be a human’s life and the country’s unity.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibahsvili also condemned the violence.
"A tragedy that caused the death of a number of people in our friendly neighbour Ukraine is a tragedy for Georgia too, especially when there is a Georgian citizen among the victims,” Garibashvili said.
He emphasized violence was not a way to resolve the ongoing crisis.
"I join the democratic world in calling for a cease in the use of force,” Garibahsvili claimed.
"I do not lose my hope that in these hardest moments the Ukrainian Government as well as the people will be wise enough and will not let the situation become more tragic,” he said.
