Only 18km away from Georgia’s capital city is a small winter wonderland that’s covered in snow.

The Betania ski slope is now open – more than two weeks before the country’s two main winter resorts mark the beginning of the 2014-15 winter season.

This is the third year the Betania ski facility is open to the public. People are encouraged to visit the family-friendly facility, as it is already boasting a thick snow base, officials said.

The small slope includes a 600m ski line and a 200m safe route for kids.

An added benefit of the facility is that it is fitted with lights so revellers can enjoy the slopes at night.

On weekends, the lift will operate from midday to midnight, while on weekdays it will operate from 6pm to midnight – a feature many enjoyed as this made the resort available to guests outside of working hours.

Before hitting the slopes, skiers and snowboarders will be able to hire all their equipment on site, and if they need a break, they can enjoy indoor and outdoor cafes and restaurants.

In addition, those who wish to stay the night can lodge in the resort’s cosy hotel, which offers 21 rooms and 24-hour room service.

Meanwhile Gudauri and Bakuriani ski resorts are preparing to open the 2014-15 winter season on December 20.
