First snow falls at Gudauri ski resort

Georgia’s leading ski resort Gudauri could start its winter season little earlier than normal this year after the area experienced its first dusting of snow.

Resort officials celebrated the first snowfall and posted pictures of the snowy mountain on its Facebook page yesterday. The images showed a decent amount of snow had fallen and the ground had a basic snow cover. In one picture visibility appeared low as a chairlift was engulfed in white clouds and falling snow.

While this might be a one-off happening before winter, skiers, snowboarders and winter sport enthusiasts excitedly received the news and said they now waited for the chance to put on their winter clothes and greet the snowy season.

Meanwhile, the Georgian Government was working to ensure snow would be guaranteed at Gudauri and Bakuriani, another ski resort, by implementing artificial snow machines for the first time.

The snow machines would create artificial snow in places where more snow was needed. This would guarantee a decent snow base on the ski tracks at Gudauri and Bakuriani and allow winter revellers from near and far to enjoy a long, prosperous winter season.
