"Very serious and scandalous information is being spreading about Kezerashvili."

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili shared these comments about the former Minister of Defence and Head of Financial Police, Davit Kezerashvili, at a press conference today.

The ex-official has been charged with corruption, violating Georgian transport rules (in relation to large amounts of movable items) and illegal money laundering.

According to a document, prepared by international audit company Deloitte Limited, Kezerashvili was the sole beneficial owner of the FPC Group, registered in an offshore zone. The turnover of the company in the year it established, 2009, was almost 9 million USD and increased to more than 795 million USD in 2012.

Prime Minister Garibashvili mentioned that foreign countries investigative structures were also interested in Kezerashvilis case.

He stated that it was "quite scandalous that United National Movementc (UNM) members claimed Kezerashvili was the major contributor and important organiser of fundraising to support the partys political activities and campaign. UNM party members made these claims in a letter sent to French authorities.

The Prime Minister compared Kezerashvilis case to the prison abuse scandal, which was broadcast on September 18 by opposition channels.

"Everybody knew that the prisoners were tortured in the prisons, however our societys voice has not reached the international society. We also know that National Movement captured the government property and the letter has confirmed this fact, Garibashvili said.

He said the Chief Prosecutor will do its best to complete this investigation.
