Giorgi Vashadze has been one of the influential figures of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) before quitting the political party in May of 2016, claiming UNM had turned into a "closed system without new initiatives”.

From 2010-2012 he was Deputy Justice Minister. From 2006-2012 he also served as head of the National Agency of Public Registry. In 2012 he became Member of Parliament through the UNM party list.
