Georgia will take over the rotating Presidency of the Energy Community in 2025 after the decision made at the 22nd Ministerial Council of the Community in Vienna, the Georgian Economy Ministry said on Thursday.
The Ministry noted Georgia, as the chairing country, would be able to participate “more actively” in planning events and issues to be discussed under the Energy Community agenda.
The Ministerial meeting focused on the development of renewable energies in the Community countries, the implementation of energy efficiency and decarbonisation objectives, and working out new regulations, which should contribute to the fulfilment of commitments undertaken before the EC and also, to enhancing the energy security and energy connectivity of the European Union and the Energy Community member states.
Georgia joined the Energy Community in 2017, which is an international organisation bringing together the EU and its neighbours to create an integrated pan-European energy market.
