Georgian Dream party founder, French President discuss ongoing political situation in Georgia

French President Emmanuel Macron and Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday discussed the latest developments in the country following the Georgian Government’s announcement of a delay of EU accession talks until 2028.

Macron noted he was “concerned” about the situation in Georgia, on the backdrop of ongoing _, and expressed desire to contribute to its “complete deescalation”, the Georgian Dream press office said.

Ivanishvili thanked Macron for the initiative and welcomed the idea of “joint efforts”.

The officials agreed to  get in contact in the coming days to assess progress made in the process.

The hour-long phone conversation was held at the initiative of the French President.
