Georgia's National Intellectual Property Centre on Wednesday participated in a diplomatic conference organised by the World Intellectual Property Organisation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to finalise and adopt a new design law agreement aimed at providing global support for designers in protecting their creations.
Darejan Mchedlidze, the Head of the Trademarks, Geographical Indications, and Designs Department of the Centre, represented Georgia at the event, contributing to discussions on the role of design in “determining market value and providing a competitive edge”, the Centre said.
The conference saw member countries of the WIPO refine and agree upon regulations that aim to “benefit all nations involved”, the Centre said.
The primary objective of the new agreement is to streamline design application procedures, ensuring consistency and accessibility, it added.
The body also said by facilitating international registration of designs, the agreement aimed to provide designers with enhanced opportunities to protect their creations both domestically and internationally.
