Georgian, Austrian FMs discuss “close cooperation”, EU integration at OSCE Ministerial meeting

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili and Alexander Schallenberg, the Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, on Thursday discussed  “friendly relations” and “close cooperation” between the two countries in both bilateral and multilateral formats, at the meeting held on the sidelines of the 31st session of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe Ministerial Council in Malta.

The sides also reviewed the current developments in Georgia, with Botchorishvili highlighting the Georgian Government’s “goal to put forth maximum efforts for the country’s further progress on the path to the European integration”.  

Botchorishvili briefed her Austrian counterpart on Georgia’s October general elections and the involvement of international observers in the vote, the Foreign Ministry said. 

At the meeting, the conversation also focused on the security environment in the region, with the Georgian Minister providing information to Schallenberg on the “difficult situation” in Georgia's Russian-occupied territories.

Botchorishvili expressed gratitude to the Austrian official for his country’s “steadfast support” of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as “for supporting Georgia’s European aspirations”, while Schallenberg pledged Austria would “continue to stand by Georgia on its path to EU membership”.
