Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s Acting Prime Minister, on Wednesday dismissed the significance of European Parliament resolutions for his Government, saying its resolutions, which “include demands that will collapse the country’s economy”, were “absolutely unjust” and held “no value”.
Speaking on Imedi Live, the official criticised the EP’s recent resolution, which addresses sanctions, visa liberalisation, new elections, and the transfer of Mikheil Saakashvili, the currently imprisoned former President of Georgia, abroad for medical treatment.
This resolution is not new. This is, if I am not mistaken, the fifth resolution that the EP aims to adopt”, he said, adding “none of the previous resolutions had any value for anyone, including neither the European Commission nor the European Council, and for us, of course, such resolutions, which are absolutely unfair, cannot have any value”.
Kobakhidze argued the resolutions had included “harmful demands”, highlighting their potential impact on Georgia’s economy.
They directly demanded the imposition of sanctions from us [on Russia for invading Ukraine], which would collapse the country's economy”, he claimed.
Referring to the latest resolution expected to be approved shortly, Kobakhidze reaffirmed his stance, saying “of course, their fifth resolution will be like that, which should be approved tomorrow, as far as I know”.
