Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia’s Acting Prime Minister, on Wednesday said his Government’s “priority” was to take steps for “rebooting” relations with the United States and the European Union.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kobakhidze stressed the “main” thing was to see “reciprocal” steps from the country’s Western partners.
The Acting PM further noted that “the sooner the war in Ukraine ends, the sooner reciprocal steps will emerge”.
We attributed the restart of relations both with the United States and the European Union mainly to three developments. The first was our elections, which have already ended, the second was the American elections, which have also ended, although everyone is waiting for the inauguration, and essentially the processes in the United States will change after the inauguration, that is, from January 20. The third important thing is the end of the war in Ukraine. As we assumed, the war in Ukraine will end next year”, Kobakhidze noted.
The head of the Government claimed that with the end of the war in Ukraine, the situation would calm down “very quickly”, not only in the South Caucasus region but also in the world.
He also stressed the war was “generally” threatening the stability of the world as a whole, and especially the stability of Europe, and further pointed out that “therefore, it is in the interests of every European state to end this war as quickly as possible”.
