Giorgi Kalandarishvili, the Chair of the Central Election Commission, discussed the country's parliamentary elections of last month with representatives of the United States Embassy in Georgia and the US Agency for International Development, the CEC said on Wednesday.
The sides also reviewed “disinformation campaigns” against the vote, and assessments on the elections and the CEC by international observer organisations.
Kalandarishvili stressed the importance of the meeting and said, he expressed the hope of further deepening cooperation between his office, the Embassy and the USAID.
I provided detailed information on current important topics and listened to their opinions regarding the October 26 elections. [Our office] is constantly learning about recommendations and findings by international organisations, and regularly incorporates them based on its capabilities and mandate, which subsequently has a positive impact on electoral processes”, the Chair noted.
He also emphasized the international partners had been “actively involved” during the implementation of the electronic voting technology and voter information campaigns.
The representatives stressed Commission’s “successful implementation” of electronic voting and campaigns for informing voters about them in the elections.
