David Songulashvili, the candidate for the position of the Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Georgia, on Monday expressed his commitment to “actively collaborating” with both the private sector and relevant parliamentary committees to further the goals set by the Government.

During a press briefing at the Administration of the Government, Songulashvili expressed gratitude to  Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the ruling Georgian Dream party for their “great trust” in advancing his nomination for the position.

He acknowledged the “great honour and responsibility” that came with the position, while also thanking his predecessor, Otar Shamugia, for his “collaborative work on important issues” in Parliament.

During my time [in the Parliament], I was able to implement several significant reforms with our team, which contributed to the country’s development and economic progress. As the Minister, I will continue the reforms that have already begun and initiate crucial new reforms needed to achieve our stated goals [...] I would also like to extend my best wishes for success to the Parliament of the 11th convocation”, Songulashvili added.

The announcement of new ministerial candidates, including Maka Botchorishvili for the Foreign Minister and Anri Okhanashvili for the Justice Minister, comes as part of a cabinet reshuffle following last month’s general elections.

The reshuffle precedes the inaugural session of the news Parliament, where the new Government will outline its legislative agenda.
