Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, on Friday attended a service honouring the Feast of the Cross at Sioni Cathedral in central Tbilisi, the Government press office said.
The service was officiated by Ilia II, the Catholic Patriarch of Georgia’s Orthodox Christian Church, along with Metropolitan Shio of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, who serves as the Patriarch’s locum tenens.
The feast commemorates the transformation of a once-barbaric tool of execution into a sacred “tree of life”, symbolising hope for humanity.
