Zviad Asanishvili, the Deputy Director of the Georgian Animal Monitoring Agency, on Thursday said the cases of rabies disease “have decreased considerably”, by about  70 percent, in the country, with only two manifestations of rabies recorded this year.

Asanishvili pointed out that there had been “dozens of cases” of rabies before 2011, while since then “there have been only single cases”, adding this progress was facilitated by the improvement of veterinary services in the country and the implementation of preventive and quarantine measures by the relevant competent bodies.

He also noted “several thousand animals are vaccinated annually” and added that “no animal leaves a municipal shelter without rabies vaccination”.
