Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Friday awarded Olympic and Paralympic medal-winners from the country with the Medal of Honour state prize.
Zourabichvili extended her “heartfelt” congratulations to the athletes and the community gathered at the award ceremony.
Athletes, winners or participants [of the Olympic and Paralympic Games …] the population of your country equally welcomes you. Beyond earning medals, awards, and prizes you have received something far more valuable, much more eternal, something that cannot be changed in anything - the genuine love and admiration of the people”, Zourabichvili said.
The Georgian Olympic team participated in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, with their medal haul including three gold, three silver and one bronze, while also achieving the highest-ever position by ranking 24th in the overall team standings.
Nine of 14 Georgian athletes won medals at the Paris Paralympic Games that brought together around 4,000 athletes from 180 countries to compete in 549 medal events across 22 sports.
