Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the domestic public was “making choices in accordance with the reality they are observing” in the country, and credited it for its “experience” in analysing political developments.

“There were some years when a statement of a certain [Andrius] Kubilius [MEP]  caused serious excitement [in the country]”, he said.

Today this is no longer the case - today the Georgian public makes choices in accordance with the reality they observe in the country. Everything else is absolutely secondary”, the PM said.

Asked whether statements of Eka Gigauri, the Director of Transparency International Georgia NGO, and United States Senator James Risch at a session of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday would have an impact on assessments of results of the upcoming parliamentary elections, Kobakhidze claimed the “purpose of such acts” was to “have some influence” on election results, adding “the Georgian public will not base its election decisions on this”.
