The Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament on Thursday reviewed and backed the ratification of law enforcement agreement between Georgia and Belgium.
The agreement, proposed by the Government, is expected to strengthen collaborative efforts between the two nations in “various critical areas” of law enforcement, the Parliament press office said.
Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Interior Minister, stressed the “high importance” of the agreement during the session, noting it encompassed a “broad range of law enforcement matters”.
The official noted the potential deal included combating terrorism, organised crime, and criminal activities that endangered individuals' lives and health, while also addressing concerns related to narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors, as well as criminal activities involving the illegal manufacture and trade of weapons, ammunition and dangerous materials.
The agreement also covers aspects such as human trafficking, sexual crimes against children, illegal transportation of migrants and money laundering, and aims to enhance cooperation in tracking wanted individuals, missing persons and stolen items.
