Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday condemned what he called "fascist bullying" aimed at candidates on the party’s electoral list, following GD’s introduction of its top 20 candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections the previous day.

In his press comments, the official alleged Olympic champions Lasha Talakhadze and Geno Petriashvili, and Lika Shartava, the granddaughter of the national hero Zhiuli Shartava, had been subjected to “unjustified attacks” by members of the “radical opposition” after their inclusion in the list.

Mdinaradze said the candidates remained “mentally and physically strong, determined to serve their country with patriotism, professionalism, and dignity” despite the opposition's criticism.

He further noted the individuals were “widely admired for their success and integrity” and were “not vulnerable to the bullying tactics” of the opposition.

The opposition's leaders and supporters are bitter at the sight of new, successful figures joining our ranks. They are resorting to senseless, fascist-style bullying, but candidates like Talakhadze and Petriashvili remain unshaken. They are mentally and physically resilient and will continue serving their homeland”, the party Executive Secretary said.

He also alleged the opposition lacked “resources for renewal” in contrast to GD and relied on “individuals convicted of various crimes” following the spell of the previous Government.

Our party consists of people proud of their country, while the opposition offers nothing but outdated faces and leaders with criminal records”, he added.

Mdinaradze also expressed confidence the public would “continue to support” his party’s candidates, who he said were “dedicated to the country’s progress and sovereignty”.
