Georgian national football coach Willy Sagnol on Saturday highlighted the squads “confidence “ in their Nations League Group B1 win over Czechia in Tbilisi.

Speaking following the 4-1 win, Sagnol pointed out his team had "come a long way" and added he had believed the squad had gained the confidence after the results achieved “through teamwork" at Euro 2024 earlier this year.

Team captain Guram Kashia, who plays for ŠK Slovan Bratislava, said he was "very happy" that the team had "approached the first game with such seriousness" after their successful run at the Euros.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, who recently signed for Liverpool and was nominated for the Yashin Trophy for goalkeepers, said the squad had expected a "tough match" and it "turned out to be so".

“It is true that we won 4-1 but that does not mean that we won easily. I think one of the reasons for our victory was that we were more motivated", he added.

Attacking midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze noted the team “played well” and would “keep moving forward” in their fixtures.

Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia told reporters the squad had “not played such a beautiful game for a long time" and added he was "very pleased" with the game.

He noted while there had been “mistakes” made in the match, they would be analysed later after the "very important" victory.
