Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the construction of a hadron therapy centre at Kutaisi International University in the country’s western Imereti region was set to be completed in 2026.
During his address at the graduation ceremony of the University, Kobakhidze emphasised the “unique importance” of the project, stating that it would “greatly” contribute to the country once it begins its research programmes.
This groundbreaking project will bring recognition to our country”, he said.
The Prime Minister thanked Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party and the founder of the University, acknowledging his “vision and dedication” for University’s establishment.
He praised the venue’s “unique” infrastructure and “prime” location, as selected by Ivanishvili and his family, emphasising it met the “highest” European standards.
The centre aims to offer its facilities for scientific research in particle physics, radiation physics and biophysics and support operations of the proton therapy centre, coupled with the faculty of medicine at the University.
