Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday extended his “heartfelt congratulations” to Azerbaijani authorities on the “successful completion” of parliamentary elections in the country.

In the social media message, Papuashvili noted the Azerbaijani legislative body now had a renewed democratic mandate to continue building a “strong, prosperous, and united” state.

“Looking forward to closely working with my Azerbaijani colleagues on achieving our commonly shared goals of our peoples’ peace, security, and prosperity”, Papuashvili said.

Davit Matikashvili, the First Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Legal Issues, on Sunday called the Azerbaijani parliamentary elections “historic”, as the elections were held for the first time in the entire territory of the country.

The ruling Georgian Dream party MPs Savalan Mirzoev, Irakli Kadagishvili and Zaur Dargali were among observers for the elections.
