Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday met foreign ministers of the states of the Caribbean region - Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada as well as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines - visiting the country, to discuss cooperation in bilateral and multilateral parliamentary formats, the country’s Parliament said.
The parties also discussed Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), with Papuashvili extending his gratitude to the foreign ministers for supporting territorial integrity of the country, and expressed hope of their continuing support for the United Nations resolution on internally displaced persons from the state's Russian-occupied regions, adopted by the 78th UN General Assembly in June.
The parties emphasised the “need to protect” the rules-based international order.
The discussions also covered the progress of the country in implementing reforms and its role as an important state in the Middle Corridor - a multimodal transport corridor connecting China to Europe through the South Caucasus.
The visiting officials also pointed out Georgia's achievements on the path of economic and democratic development and expressed the desire to share the “best experience”, especially in state services, management of budgetary processes and economic reforms.
