Police have arrested three individuals in Georgia’s Kvemo Kartli region for involvement in extortion of a “significant sum” of money and damage to property, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Tuesday.
The investigation found the accused were aiding criminal organisations abroad in extorting “large amounts” of money, it added.
They allegedly threatened citizens and attempted to intimidate them into making payments, and causing damage to their property when met with refusal.
The arrests were made by employees of Marneuli district division of the Kvemo Kartli police department under the Ministry.
The crime is punishable up to seven years of imprisonment.
