Georgia’s Special Investigation Service on Thursday said it had arrested an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Border Police for threats of physical harm against his ex-wife.
The Service said its investigation had established the offender had been “behaving aggressively out of jealousy”, asking his wife to quit her job and verbally insulting her, which had resulted in the couple's divorce.
The body added the individual had chased his ex-wife with a car and threatened the victim with physical harm, with the incident taking place in western Georgia’s Kobuleti municipality in the Adjara region last month.
The victim asked the Service for assistance, with the body adding its investigative actions had been carried out “in a short period of time” and obtained evidence that led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
The crime is punishable by imprisonment up to three years.
