Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday said the ruling Georgian Dream party was not interested in dragging the country into a confrontation between “two big or any states”.
Kadagishvili noted the Georgian Government did not want the country to become a “place” for anti-Chinese or anti-American propaganda, adding the ruling party was “interested in succeeding” in democratic, economic development and establishing logistical connections between Europe and Asia.
“European, [Euro-] Atlantic, civilisational values are very important for us [the ruling party], and Georgia has success in all international ratings, in terms of democracy development, human rights, transparency of business, economy and governance. In such a case, we want a partnership and transparent relationship to be in the relations between the big states”, he said.
The Committee Chair emphasised that the relations with the United States - the strategic partner of Georgia - were “vital” for the country, highlighting recent statements of the Georgian Government members about further restarting the partnership with the US.
He also criticised representatives of domestic opposition, saying they “have a fundamental problem, don't have any positive agenda inside the country, and have been constantly trying to put Georgia into the confrontation with the West”.
