The Georgian Environmental Protection Ministry’s Department of Environmental Supervision on Tuesday said it had identified an illegal sawmill in Georgia’s Black Sea Adjara region.
The Department said the offending operator in question had set up an unregistered band sawing machine in Gori village of Shuakhevi Municipality, with the inspectors also uncovering 21 units of logs of coniferous species in the vicinity.
Levan Jgharkava, the Head of the Department, said the body was “actively” combating illegal forest use, and noted “appropriate responses will be made to all detected violations”.
The body added its crews were patrolling round-the-clock to “promptly prevent, identify and detect” unlawful forest use, hunting, fishing and other environmental violations.
