Georgian Sports Minister Thea Tsulukiani on Tuesday highlighted the successful performance of the country's athletes at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, highlighting their record-setting medal haul as “most fruitful”.
First of all, we should thank the athletes for this great success, as well as their coaches and doctors, federations, the [Georgian National] Olympic Committee and every employee of the Ministry, who worked with the federations and athletes to achieve this result”, she said.
Gold medal-winner weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze, heavyweight freestyle wrestler Geno Petriashvili and silver medallist freestyle wrestler Givi Matcharashvili returned to the country earlier today.
The country ranked 24th with three gold, three silver and one bronze medals at the medal table of the Olympics, while Eurosport, a television network in Europe, positioned it seventh with the number of gold medals per capita.
