Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday congratulated Georgian athletes on their “great success” at the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
I congratulate our praiseworthy judokas Tato Grigalashvili, Lasha Bekauri and Ilia Sulamanidze on their great success at the Olympics. Twenty-four-year-old Tato Grigalashvili is already a three-time world champion, three-time European champion and Olympic vice-champion. Tato has everything ahead and I am sure he will become an Olympic champion at the next Olympics”, Ivanishvili said in a congratulatory letter.
Ivanishvili further highlighted the achievement of the Bekauri, who had secured back-to-back gold medals.
At the age of 24, Lasha Bekauri is already a legend of Georgian judo and Georgian sports in general. I am sure that Lasha will fulfil the promise made three years ago and win the third Olympic gold in four years”, he noted.
Ivanishvili went on to mention the “great success” of 23-year-old Ilia Sulamanidze in his first Olympic contest, who had claimed a silver medal, adding the third medal to the haul of the Georgian Olympic team.
The press office of the Georgian Dream party added Ivanishvili had tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment, causing a delay in the release of the congratulatory letter. It said the party official’s health condition was “satisfactory”.
