The Georgian Foreign Ministry on Monday hosted ambassadors of European Union member and partner states and representatives of embassies to discuss fulfilment of the nine conditions set out by the European Commission in November for opening accession talks with the country.
Teimuraz Janjalia, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, noted diplomatic missions were informed about the “activities and reforms that are important for the implementation of the conditions”.
The official further stated “complete information” was provided on the Government’s implementation of obligations in the Association Agreement and the free trade agreement with the bloc.
We hope that this commitment and activities carried out by our country will be evaluated positively during the year, [and] further steps by the EU and our European partners will be adequate and corresponding to the results that our country is showing and making in this direction”, he said.
Janjalia said he hoped Georgia, as “one of the truly progressive states among the candidates in the enlargement package”, would be “fully evaluated accordingly” by the bloc, followed by opening of accession talks and “full integration”.
