An international conference on crime prevention was hosted on Thursday and Friday in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi to deepen interdepartmental cooperation in crime prevention and probation, foster professional development of specialists, and exchange information of existing services and resources in the country, the Ministry of Justice said on Thursday.
Georgian authorities shared their experience with counterparts from partner countries, including on the PROBBOX innovation for probationers, Digital University in detention facilities and a crime prevention course for teachers.
They also shared best practices for supporting rehabilitation and resocialisation of offenders and prevention of repeat crimes with participating agencies from European countries.
Participants also discussed probation systems in European countries and development of their capacities, engagement of state institutions, non-governmental agencies, private sector and wider public in crime prevention, rehabilitation and resocialisation.
The conference involved heads of the ministries of justice and probation services of Czechia, Romania, Croatia, the Netherlands and Azerbaijan, with the event concluding with adoption of the Tbilisi Declaration on the topic.
