Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday claimed a victory of the Republican Party nominee Donald Trump in the United States presidential elections in November would “hasten the end” of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Kobakhidze stressed it was “up to the American people” to decide who would be the President of the country.

Of course, we cannot interfere in anyone's elections, especially in the presidential elections of such a large country as the United States of America. This is not our business. The only thing that can be said is that if Trump wins the elections, the war in Ukraine will end sooner and, accordingly, our region will calm down sooner, which will change the attitude towards Georgia in particular”, he claimed.

“If there is peace in the region, the attitude towards Georgia will also change, this is the only thing that can be said in this regard - the rest is the choice of the American people, [they] should decide who will be the President of the United States”, he continued.

The Government head further claimed the “rhetoric” of the domestic opposition had “changed”, alleging the parties’ calculations saw a Trump victory as the most likely outcome of the elections, but added “no one will forget the offensive rhetoric they have used for years” with regards to the Republican nominee.
