Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said references by members of his Government to a “Global War Party” did “not include the United States and the European Union”, in comments clarifying their reference to unspecified political forces in the West who allegedly seek to create a revolutionary scenario in Georgia and involve the country into opening a “second front” amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
While noting the disclaimer, Kobakhidze said the alleged group “unfortunately” had a “principal influence” on official structures both in the US and the EU.
[W]e are talking about [a force] that is creating a problem for Georgia - this is the Global War Party [...] unfortunately, [it] has a principal influence on official structures in both the United States and the European Union. I have said that both the EU and the US need de-oligarchisation”, he said.
It is the result of this that, despite very serious pressure, we have managed to maintain peace in the country since 2022. The situation is that 20 percent of the country's territories are occupied [by Russia] - this is a fact and a situation. The second fact is that from 2022 until today, the Global War Party, including involvement of specific Western structures, has tried to cause a second front of the [Ukraine] war in Georgia. Unfortunately, the Global War Party has a substantial influence on official structures, which I think the whole society can see”, Kobakhidze claimed.
In an interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster earlier this year, the PM claimed there was “no alternative” to fighting the “Global War Party”, adding to “give up” in the confrontation would end up in “Ukrainisation” of the country, and added the struggle was “very difficult, including from a personal point of view”.
