Czech diplomat Magdalena Grono will assume the position of the European Union’s special representative for the South Caucasus and Georgia, the permanent representation of Czechia in the EU said on Wednesday.

Political and Security Committee #PSC just confirmed the appointment of Magdalena Grono 🇨🇿 as 🇪🇺 Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Georgia 🇬🇪. The nomination will be formally confirmed by the Council of the EU.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has arrived in Tbilisi. During his Georgian trip Klaar will also travel to the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar says that important discussions have been held with the involvement of the UN and OSCE regarding the current security situation at the occupation lines in Georgia. Crossing points between Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region and the rest of Georgia have been closed for more than six month, since September 4, 2019.
