The United Nations General Assembly on Friday voted overwhelmingly to approve a resolution calling on Russia to “immediately” cease its aggression against Ukraine and “unconditionally” withdraw all military forces from Ukraine’s territory, with Georgia among 99 countries voting in favour.

The Assembly also called for an immediate end to attacks against Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure, following weeks of escalation.

The resolution also demanded that Russia “urgently withdraw” its military and other unauthorised personnel from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and “immediately return” the plant to full Ukrainian control - to ensure its safety and security.

The draft resolution was introduced by Ukraine, and was sponsored by more than 50 other countries, including France, Germany and the United States.
