US Under Secretary of State expresses “deep concern” over “actions, rhetoric” of Georgia’s ruling party

Uzra Zeya, the United States Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights who is on an official visit to Georgia, on Thursday expressed his Government’s “deep concern” over “actions and rhetoric” of Georgia’s ruling party, which he said threatened the country’s Euro-Atlantic future.  

Zeya highlighted the importance of “respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms for all”, the US Embassy said.

 

The official also confirmed US support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In the framework of her visit, the visiting Under Secretary met with human rights defenders and civil society, representatives of the ruling party and the opposition, as well as the President of Georgia and the Chair of the country’s Central Election Commission.
