The Deutsche Wein und Sommelierschule institute in the German capital city of Berlin has hosted a presentation and seminar on Georgian wine with the support of the National Wine Agency of Georgia, the body said on Friday.

Chaired by Yvonne Heistermann, the President of the German Sommelier Association, the seminar explored Georgian winemaking and its modern state.

The presentation provided insights into the history of Georgian winemaking culture, the current status of its wine industry, and strategies and main goals of state promotional campaigns.

Germany is the “largest importer of wine in Europe” and has become a strategic market for Georgian wine, the Agency said, adding the country was “steadily gaining” a place in the top 10 importing countries for the product since 2020.

Georgia exported 674,000 litres of wine to Germany in the first six months, marking a 32 percent increase year-on-year.
