Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday extended his congratulations to France on its National Day.

The Government Administration said Kobakhidze attended a reception dedicated to the national holiday of Bastille Day, organised by the Embassy of France in Georgia.

The event, which also included Irakli Chikovani, the Vice-Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Georgia, saw the French Ambassador Sheraz Gasri express gratitude to the guests for joining in the celebration.

The French National Day marks the anniversary of the July 14, 1789 storming of the Bastille, a pivotal event connected to the French Revolution.

France traditionally marks Bastille Day with a military parade in Paris.
