Georgian Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari and Archil Talakvadze, the Chair of the country's Parliament’s Friendship Group with Ukraine, on Monday expressed the Government’s support for “creating a supportive environment” for Ukrainian children, in comments about a summer camp hosted for the young visitors in Georgia.

The camp is hosting two groups of students from Ukraine - children of servicemembers from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard, from Kharkiv and Kyiv.

Amilakhvari noted the camp was being organised through Government financing, as part of an initiative by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Prime Minister himself met these children [on Sunday] and had a very warm meeting and conversation with them. They like Georgia very much. We want to express all our support to the Ukrainian people, especially to the fighters, their families and their children”, Amilakhvari said.

Talakvadze highlighted the importance of creating a supportive environment for children, many of whom had “witnessed their cities being directly affected by the war”.

These are children whose cities have been directly affected by the war, whose homes have been bombed and whose parents are involved in the war. We will try to create an environment here during these 10 days that they feel the support of Georgia and the Georgian people, which Ukraine has had from the first day”, Talakvadze noted.

Both officials visited the summer camp together with the Prime Minister on Sunday.
