Officials from the Communications Commission of Georgia on Thursday discussed cooperation and outlined future joint initiatives during a meeting with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union and Cosmas Zavazava, the Director of the ITU Development Bureau.
Involving Ekaterine Imedadze and Nini Grdzelishvili from the national body, the meetings were held as part of the ITU Global Symposium for Regulators in Kampala, Uganda between Monday and Thursday.
The Commission said Bogdan-Martin thanked Imadedze for her “active” involvement in ITU events and commended her role in championing initiatives to increase women’s participation in information and technology sectors.
Furthermore, Zavazava emphasised the role of Georgia as an “important partner and supporter” of the ITU. He highlighted increased awareness among international partners regarding the country’s telecommunications landscape and activities of the Commission, attributing this to “dedicated efforts” of the latter.
The meeting also delved into initiatives aimed at deepening collaboration between the ITU and the Commission, particularly expanding on measures within the tripartite cooperation involving the Union, the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network and the European ME Research Group.
The Commission said enhancement of broadband infrastructure and services, including introduction of a digital map, had been reviewed.
