Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday addressed annual entrants of university exams by telling them he felt optimistic about the “energy and opportunities” they would “bring to modern Georgia”.

Dear entrants, a new phase is beginning in your life, one that will shape your future. I wish each of you success on this new path. The new generation represents more energy and opportunities for modern Georgia”, he said.

Kobakhidze said he believed the “strength, knowledge and experience” acquired by the applicants would “contribute to the progress and development” of the country.

The unified national examinations started across the country this morning, with the Georgian language and literature being the first tests taken by the entrants.

The National Assessment and Examination Centre said a total of 80,000 applicants had been registered for the tests, including over 47,000 for the unified national exams, over 3,000 for a student grant competition, more than 10,000 for a general master's examination and more than 18,900 for teacher tests.

The exams will conclude on July 26 with physics.
