Georgian Agriculture Ministry says EU representatives “positively assess progress” achieved in country’s agricultural sector

The Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture on Saturday said the mission of experts of the European Union had “positively evaluated the dynamics” of fulfilling the obligations undertaken by Georgia and the progress achieved in the agrarian sector.

Nino Tandilashvili, the Georgian Deputy Agriculture Minister, met with the EU mission representatives who had monitored the implementation of the obligations undertaken by Georgia for 2023 for the fourth phase of the EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development, including the components of food safety and rural development.  

The EU evaluators also shared “important” recommendations with the Georgian side in terms of agricultural and rural development, the state body noted and emphasised that the Deputy Minister thanked the mission experts for the “positive” assessment and expressed “readiness” to continue cooperation in the future as well.

The ENPARD, one of the most successful programmes of the EU, has been implemented in Georgia since 2013, aiming to support agricultural development in the country, improve the living standards of the rural population, reduce poverty, promote employment of the local population, as well as increase the quality of products produced in Georgia and their export to the European Union, the Ministry added.
